THEME: Monster

A monster theme is the perfect time to address childhood fears. We all know that many children are afraid of monsters and it is important to acknowledge this fear. The book I chose, Franklin in the Dark, shows children that everyone is afraid of something...even mothers!

Children may feel more comfortable talking about their fears after reading this story. After all, if a duck wears water wings because he has a fear of deep water, a bird uses a parachute because he is afraid to fly, and a polar bear wears a snowsuit because he is scared he will be cold...isn't it logical to want a night light if you are afraid of monsters?
