Signs and signals that surround us

Here are a few simple ways to introduce little ones to the joys of reading.

Our environment is full of signs, images, and drawings. Hunt for signs with your group and explain the meaning of each one. Among other things, think of exploring:

  • Labels on jars, containers, and cans.
  • Hot and cold water symbols (red and blue on faucets).
  • Signs indicating the boys' bathroom and the girls' bathroom.
  • Signs indicating that eating, parking, or entering are not allowed.
  • Traffic signs.
  • Traffic lights.

Do not hesitate to attract children's attention by pointing to signs or naming them. Doing so can only enrich their vocabulary. Turn this activity into a game when you are taking walks or during your daily routine.

Have fun!
