My path-Brothers and sisters

(Open transition games-Brothers and sisters) Print, laminate, and press the illustrations on the floor to create a path leading to various areas within your daycare, for example the bathroom and the cloakroom. You may also use the illustrations to delimit your various workshops.

 

Game-This is my spot-Brothers and sisters
(Open transition games-Brothers and sisters)  Print two copies. Laminate and cut out the cards. Glue one copy of each card on the table using adhesive paper. Drop the other copies in a bag. Children take turns picking a card to determine their spot at the table for the day. You may also use the cards to determine naptime spots or for your task train.

Invite children to use modeling dough to represent their family members. Provide homemade dough in a variety of colors and leave their creations out to dry.

 

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

 

Brotherhood races

Organize different types of races to highlight brothers and sisters: relay races, obstacle races, running races, etc. Invite brothers and sisters to join in on the fun or create duos to represent brothers and sisters. You can, for example, have an older child team up with a younger child.

Invite the brothers and sisters of the children in your group to come spend time in your playroom to provide them with the opportunity to play “as a family”.

Create your family book
Photocopy pictures of the children in your group or use pictures provided by parents. Cut them out and glue them on 10 x 13 pieces of paper. Place the pictures in sandwich "Ziploc" bags, two pictures back-to-back per bag. Staple all the bags together at the closed end so you will be able to open them if needed. Use colorful adhesive tape to cover the staples. Join the bags together to create a family photo album for each child. Set the albums in your reading area.

For this activity, you will need a box or small bag. Set pictures of each child’s family members in the bag. Children take turns picking a picture out of the box or bag and handing it to the child who is part of the same family. 

 

ARTS & CRAFTS

 

Puppets-Brothers and sisters
(Open puppets-Brothers and sisters) Print the models on heavy paper. Have children cut them out and decorate them. Attach Popsicle sticks to the back of each model to make puppets.

My brother, my sister, my familyModels-Brothers and sisters

Request pictures of the siblings of the children in your group (or photograph them yourself if possible). Use the pictures to create a genealogical tree for each child. Encourage children who do not have brothers or sisters to draw imaginary siblings or integrate their parents when preparing their genealogical tree.

 

Hand in hand

Press small white paper banners on your daycare walls and invite children’s brothers, sisters, and parents to press their hands in paint and then on the paper to form a chain that you can complete with the handprints of the children in your group.

 

Family portrait

Encourage children to draw or create a collage on a paper plate to represent their family, focusing on their brothers and sisters as much as possible.

If you wish, the characters can be personalized by pressing pictures of parents’ faces as well as pictures of children’s brothers’ and sisters’ faces on the boxes instead of using the printable character faces.
