Reading during meals

Here is a fun suggestion to make mealtimes interesting and educational: special placemats that encourage children to read and talk among themselves.

You can easily make your own placemats using a variety of illustrations or even educatall word flashcards. Simply glue them on a rectangular piece of cardboard and laminate them.

You can make placemats based on the following:

  • The theme you are currently exploring with your group.
  • The current season.
  • A specific color.
  • A particular sound.
  • A particular letter.
  • Whatever children are interested in at the moment.

Next to each illustration, write the corresponding word if it isn't already present. This will help children to gradually associate the correct words to the different items.
