Creating a recipe book with your group

Creating a book is an excellent way to spark an interest in reading!

Here is everything you need to know to create your very own masterpiece.

  1. Take a few pictures of the children in your group. Here, you can use pictures of children participating in an actual culinary activity, but spontaneous pictures of children playing in your kitchen area (serving broccoli blocks, preparing soup that includes toy cars, etc.) will work well too!
  2. Print the pictures.
  3. With help from the children in your group, use the pictures to create a photo montage on an 8 ½ in x 11 in sheet of paper.
  4. Write the words "Super Recipes" at the top of your montage.
  5. Write or print your group's favorite recipes. Let children decorate the recipes with stickers and scrapbooking materials. Slide each recipe in a clear sheet protector and arrange them in a duo-tang or binder.

Children will be very proud of their recipe book. Leave it in your kitchen area; they will love to pretend to recreate the recipes while exploring their book over and over again.
