How to use window clings to create original puzzles

How to use window clings to create original puzzles-1

Before every annual celebration, thematic window clings pop up in dollar stores and big-box stores. To present this activity in the weeks leading up to Halloween, I chose colorful gel window clings. The witch-themed window clings I found inspired this puzzle-like use of these popular decorations.

The first step consists in pressing the window clings on a patio door or large window, at children’s level. To begin, I randomly pressed the pieces on a window, without recreating the witch.

Next, I traced the contour of each shape using washable markers.

Young children will enjoy pressing the gel stickers on the glass surface; manipulating the gel texture is quite interesting. You can challenge older children to trace the shapes with the markers.

Encourage children to press the window clings at different levels. They can stretch their arms to press some above their head and crouch down to press others at the very bottom of the window.

Once the contour of each of the pieces has been traced, remove the window clings. You will have a great thematic puzzle that children will enjoy completing countless times!

Remove the pieces and arrange them on the original cellophane paper, but in no particular order. Children will enjoy associating each item to the correct outline drawn on the window.

If you prefer, you can press the window clings on the window, creating a character or scene. The outlines will help younger children successfully recreate the “puzzle”.

Obviously, this activity can be done with all types of window clings. For example, number or letter-shaped window clings can be used throughout the year.

Have fun!
